Seeking acting advice

So I have an acting question for everyone out there. What do you do when there is a day and the lines just won't come to you? I ask since my mind ker-splat last Monday. I haven't acted in a full production since '04, I know I'm showing my age a bit with that, but I'm curious if anyone has come up with any techniques or what have you for when you mind won't spit out what you have already put in there.

  1. Are we talk about in rehearsals? Because I had a similar problem the day of the director switch. I think the important thing to do is go by to script, and use it... but only when you need to. The important thing, especially in the time crunch we're working in for this class, is to get the work done and you can't do that when you're spending the entire time fumbling with lines.

  2. Honestly, the best thing I have found is to drill them with your scene partner. If there is a time you can find to meet with the person you say the lines to it helps so much! When you have someone you are working with...often their delivery helps get the words out. In a monologue...I think of it like a story...first comes this part of the story...then that. Make almost a plot out of a monologue. If you hit the "key" bullet points...the rest often follows. And always remember....you rock! Have the confidence in yourself. If you need a moment to breathe and start over...take it! It's a rehearsal....thats what rehearsals are for. And if you get to a passage you fumble a lot...take a moment...calm yourself down..remind yourself "I got this...I know this"...then start again! Stress and working yourself up is your worst enemy (even though we all do it). Keep up the confidence...remember..."You Got This Shit"! :)

  3. It helps me to write out all my cues and lines, even after I've memorized. Sometimes I make more than one "role" for myself just to keep things fresh!
